Thank You!

November 15, 2008 · Posted in Events, General · Comment
First off, I’d like to thank everyone who showed up last night for helping to make the party a smashing success — couldn’t have done it without you guys!

And, for those of you who weren’t able to make it, it was a success.  We sold a lot more copies of Like Glass than I honestly expected to, and I can’t thank everyone enough.  Besides, even if we hadn’t sold a single copy, it was still a great time, and that’s the most important thing.  And I only misspelled one customer’s name, so that’s not too bad for my first signing ;)  (Sorry again about that, Lacy!)

Now, though, it’s time to start focusing on the next one!

I’m having a book signing at The Book Rack, at Pebble Hills and Lee Trevino, (in El Paso) on December 6th.  Make sure you get a copy today — follow the links on the sidebar or at http://chocolatefordogs.com/like-glass — so  you’ll have one then!

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by!

Having a Party

November 14, 2008 · Posted in Events, General · Comment
Well, tonights the big night, and I’ll be honest, I’m nervous.  I know I shouldn’t be, I’m sure everything’s going to go fine.  One of my worst fears about the party has already been quelled — don’t try to get me to explain; I won’t — so everything ought to be perfectly fine.

Still though, I kinda hate being in the spotlight.  I know, I’m wanting to be a big-shot author, so that’s not a good combination; I’m (hopefully) going to have to be in the spotlight more often than I’d probably like, if I want to sell any books.  But for tonight, at least, I need to go out there and shake hands and sign copies and do the whole PR thing.  It’ll probably be fun, once the ball gets rolling; just like everything else in life: the anticipation is worse than the event.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m also damned excited about it too.  I’m anxious to see just how many people show up, how many copies I sell, everything like that.  And, above all else, it’s a party.  That’s the important thing I’m trying to keep in mind — we’re gonna have a blast.  I love the bar, my wife’ll be there for (im)moral support, and there’ll be lots of drinks and friends around.  Probably get a couple of games of pool in.

Unfortunately — or fortunately, depending on your perspective — the karaoke got cancelled.  So, if you were afraid of hearing me warble out “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” rest assured that I most likely will not be butchering any songs tonight.

I need to make some phone calls, so I’m cutting this short; but if you’re in the area, make sure you stop by: 3905 Broaddus, El Paso, TX.  Maybe I’ll buy you a beer.

On The Radio!

November 4, 2008 · Posted in Events, General, Writing · Comment
Hello there from Chocolate For Dogs land; I come bearing exciting tidings today.

This Saturday, November 8th 2008, at roughly 11:30 AM Mountain time, I will be appearing on KTEP’s State of the Arts with Monica Gomez, discussing Like Glass and my experiences being a writer and a software developer.  If you’re not excited, that’s okay:  I’m excited enough for all of us — it’s my first media appearance outside of the blogosphere (and, with any luck, the first of many — knock on wood…).

If you don’t plan on being in the El Paso area, or you’ll be away from your radio, fear not!  You can still tune in by going to http://www.ktep.org/listen.sstg.  I’m trying to arrange a copy of the interview as well, so if all goes well on that end you might even be able to download it from here.

I’d like to personally thank Monica for a wonderful interview experience — I was nervous as hell, and she did a great job of making me feel at home.  Thanks Monica!

Coming Soon: Author Interviews and Guest Posts

October 31, 2008 · Posted in Events, General · Comment
Just wanted to drop a quick line here (I do that a lot, don’t I?) and let you know about some stuff coming up that I’m a little excited about.

I’m still trying to work the kinks out, so I don’t have an official date yet, but sometime in the next couple of weeks we’ll be having interviews with authors, and probably some guest posts by them as well.

Don’t worry — I’ll let you know the details when they come up ;)

Aside from that, Like Glass is still making the rounds on the reviewer circuit, and we should have at least one more review for you to check out within a week or two.  So stay tuned — who knows what tomorrow shall bring!

Virtual Tour Update

October 29, 2008 · Posted in Events, General · Comment
Just wanted to drop everyone a quick line.  I’m currently trying to manage a “virtual tour”, and here’s where things are happening so far:

10/29/08: Cafe of Dreams — Guest Post, “A Matter of Perspective
– This is live now, so check it out!

10/31/08: Book Talk with J & J — Interview, up at 5:00 PM (Pacific?  I’ll find out and update it here…) throughout the weekend.
– Mark your calendars!!!

And, if you have a website and you’d like me to do a guest post or interview, or you’d like to review Like Glass, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  Also, if you’re an author interested in doing any of those on this site, go ahead and let me know (use the same link).  “See” you there!

Book Signing in December

September 17, 2008 · Posted in Events, Writing · Comment
Alright, for those keeping score here’s another signing to add to the list.

I’ll be appearing at the Book Rack, at 10708 Pebble Hills Blvd, (El Paso, Texas) from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on December 6th.  This will be my first “public” appearance, as I consider Shooter’s in the same light one might consider a child hood home (okay, maybe not quite that much, but I still don’t feel like I’m out in public there).

There will be books available for purchase there, but (like at the release party) it’ll be a limited supply, so make sure you get your copy now so you have it then.

A Breather

September 17, 2008 · Posted in Events, General, Writing · Comment
It’s been a very hectic week or so, and it’s time for a bit of a break.  So, I’m sitting here for a rare night-time post with a cup of chamomile tea, my beloved beagle whining for her daily Busy-Bone (still not quite time; can’t give in too early), and that peaceful, easy feeling the Eagles once sang of.

I’ve been much busier with the book than I have to date, and so far it seems to be paying off.  We have (in no particular order):

  • A release party at Shooter’s Billiards on November 14th.
  • A possible book signing (Note to self: finalize this tomorrow).
  • A radio appearance sometime early in November (KTEP).
  • A handful of potential newspaper appearances.
To top it off, there’s also some interest from the agent side of things — after reading the summary I sent, one agent has asked to read the book, along with reviews.  Certainly beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.  Now, if I can just scrounge up some reviews, we’ll be doing good…  (Some of those are in the works, and more emails will be sent and phone calls will be made in the days to come.)

For now though, it’s time to call it a night, I think, and enjoy this little silence before the storm of tomorrow hits.
